Family Development Planning
Tailored support for long-term resilience

Extreme poverty is not uniform. Families face different constraints based on gender, ethnicity, disability, age, and geography. That’s why the programme co-develops a Family Development Plan (FDP) with each participating household - ensuring support is aligned with their needs, capacities, and aspirations.
What the plan includes
- Livelihood vision: Each family defines the type of income-generating activity they want to pursue - be it livestock, vegetable farming, poultry rearing, or land leasing.
- Business planning: Practical planning around inputs, costs, market access, and sustainability - supported by training and local market analysis.
- Skills & training needs: Identification of capacity gaps and access to relevant trainings.
- Risk considerations: Tailored measures to prepare for climate shocks and minimise livelihood disruptions.
The FDP serves as a dynamic roadmap that evolves as the household's capacities grow and risks change - ensuring that support remains relevant over time. The planning process is led by women and facilitated by trained staff. This strengthens self-determination and ensures that interventions build on existing knowledge, respect social dynamics, and foster dignity.
By investing in each family's own vision for the future, the programme fosters ownership and strengthens the foundation for sustainable, socially inclusive economic success.
