Sustainability and Local Ownership
Empowerment that endures beyond project cycles

Long-term change requires more than short-term support. The programme is designed to transfer ownership to participants - gradually and deliberately - so that community structures and programme gains are sustained beyond external funding.
Transitioning from project to local leadership
Key elements of the sustainability strategy include:
- Capacity building: Self-help groups and federations are trained in financial management, strategic planning, and governance.
- Formalisation: Federations are supported to register as independent organisations, enhancing their ability to receive funds, manage services, and represent their communities.
- Peer learning and replication: Exchange visits between regions and groups foster mutual learning and spark independent replication of successful practices.
- Ongoing dialogue with local actors: Regular engagement with local leaders, power holders, service providers, and decision-makers builds enabling environments for self-help groups to thrive after project phase-out.
This approach ensures that participants not only escape extreme poverty, but also continue to shape their future with confidence, dignity, and self-determination.
